Welcome to Year 5

As always the Year 5 team will be working tirelessly to ensure that each and every child has the best possible educational experience at Westminster Primary Academy. The Year 5 team will be doing everything we can to enable every child to get the most out of their time with us and reach their full potential.

English and Maths

This year, the children will be basing much of their English work around a variety of class novels. These will be linked to the various topics that we study throughout the year, such as; Space, The Vikings and the Anglo Saxons. Through studying a class read, it allows children to gain a love of reading whilst also hitting curriculum objectives in Reading, Writing and SPaG. As part of their homework children should access reading books on Bug Club and practise their spellings each week.

In year 5, children will be building on prior mathematical knowledge as well as learning new concepts and ideas. Children are expected to have a solid understanding and recall their times tables and therefore must be learning these not only in school but at home. Children will also be expected to log on to TTRockstars at home for 30 minutes a week.
